The Energetic Impact of Stoicism and My Heartfelt concern for Men
Lately, I've found myself paying closer attention to an aspect of men's health that isn't discussed nearly enough. I'm not talking about testosterone levels, cholesterol, or prostate health. I'm talking about emotional and energetic health—the invisible side of well-being that often goes unrecognized until it begins to affect the body.
As an acupuncturist, I see firsthand what can happen when emotions are repeatedly pushed aside, suppressed, or carried alone. Our culture often gives men very few places to safely express vulnerability, grief, fear, or even tenderness. The expectation to "man up" may seem harmless, but over time it can come with a profound energetic and physical cost.
I don't pretend that changing this cultural pattern will be quick or easy. But I do believe that healing begins with conversation. It begins when we ask questions no one has thought to ask, listen without judgment, and create space for people to be fully human. My recent article in Creations Magazine explores this topic through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine, emotional health, and one patient encounter that has stayed with me ever since. I hope you'll take a few minutes to read it.
